As a Minnesota native, I bring local knowledge, technical expertise, and excellent customer service to every carpentry project. #### Here's a little bit about me and how I got here. ### My Early Years After graduating from the University of Minnesota with my chemical engineering degree in 2016, I spent several years working at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. In 2021, I left this role to travel the country with my now-wife Ellie during her time as a travel nurse.  ![Man and woman smiling in front of mountains](https://www.schrantzcarpentry.com/hs-fs/hubfs/tate_ellie_earlyyears.png?width=900&height=900&name=tate_ellie_earlyyears.png "Man and woman smiling in front of mountains") ![woodworking-1](https://246881957.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hub/246881957/hubfs/woodworking-1.png?width=1200&length=1200&name=woodworking-1.png) ![campholden](https://246881957.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hub/246881957/hubfs/campholden.png?width=1200&length=1200&name=campholden.png) ### Building My Passion for Carpentry Our "van life" era gave me the opportunity to explore my passion for carpentry, reading extensively about woodworking techniques, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, and participating in a historical porch restoration at Camp Holden Village in Washington State.  ### Honing My Craft While we were in Burlington, Vermont, I began taking on professional carpentry jobs, including porch rebuilds and staircase projects. These experiences confirmed my love for working with wood and creating lasting improvements to homes. ![Newly renovated porch and balustrade](https://www.schrantzcarpentry.com/hubfs/Exterior%20Balustrade%20(3).png "Newly renovated porch and balustrade") ![Newly renovated outdoor deck](https://246881957.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hub/246881957/hubfs/schrantz_deck%20(2).png?width=1200&length=1200&name=schrantz_deck%20(2).png) ![New exterior balustrade](https://246881957.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hub/246881957/hubfs/schrantz_balustrade%20(1).png?width=1200&length=1200&name=schrantz_balustrade%20(1).png) ### Bringing My Business Home When Ellie and I decided to settle back in Minnesota, I committed fully to my carpentry career by studying for and securing my Minnesota Builder's License (#BC800780). One of my first projects in Minnesota was a deck rebuild.   ### Serving the St. Paul Area Today, I live in Arden Hills and have a special passion for working on historic homes throughout St. Paul and the surrounding communities. I bring my engineering background and hands-on experience to every project, focusing on quality craftsmanship and solutions tailored to each client's unique space. ![Historic millwork on a house in St. Paul](https://www.schrantzcarpentry.com/hubfs/millwork.png "Historic millwork on a house in St. Paul") ## See My Work Take a look at some recent custom carpentry projects, including balustrades, doors, millwork, and windows.
